An old favorite of American mythology is the "can do" attitude and the "invent a better mousetrap" bravdo. This was well earned and well respected. When faced with an obstacle, one relied upon technical cowboy inventiveness. Unlike the European peasants, mired in tradition, the American immigrant strode forth to try new things in new ways even if much of it looked like the Old World, we did create a lot of creators.
