INEXCUSABLE TORTURE

f

It never seems to end. When Congressman Durbin stood in the House and denounced our gulag system for being evil, the right wingers and the media attacked him and pretended he was attacking the troops and not Federal policies put in place by the Bush team under the guise of the ill named Patriot Act.

HACKERS RACE TO RIP CISCO

f
By Elaine Meinel Supkis

This was so predictable. The minute Cisco dumped on Mr. Lynn for lecturing about flaws in their router systems, the sharp ears and eyes of every hacker and computer maven suddenly was affixed upon this very thing. As my previous article Black Hat Spat noted, the data and the lecture that Cisco and ISS tried to suppress ended up on the web. I saw all of it while researching a story that was sort of off to one side but I changed directions and focused on the not aborted Lynn "Holy Grail" lecture.

VIDEO WARRIORS TOO BUSY

Five soldiers who were real human beings and who wanted to live were blown up in Iraq today and are now very much dead. A host of others lost more arms and legs. We read patriotic stories about legless or armless men begging to be sent back to Iraq so they can give more for America.

CHINA'S SHADOW, CONDI

f
By Elaine Meinel Supkis

The propaganda machine in America whirls on. From the Washington Post:
Now six months on the job, Rice has clearly wrested control of U.S. foreign policy. The once heavy-handed Defense Department still weighs in, but Rice wins most battles -- in strong contrast to her predecessor, Colin L. Powell. White House staff is consulted, but Rice designed the distinctive framework for the administration's second-term foreign policy.

THAT HIDEOUS STRENGTH CONSPIRACY

f

Today is very interesting. Daliwood, one of our wonderful readers, gave me amazing information. I went off to confirm it on the net last night and didn't go to bed until after 1 am. I used a wild combination of key words, googling an increasing stream of key words like "listing" and "Thunderhorse" and "oil rig", "Texas", "Gulf, hurricane Dennis" and finally got a rigger's chat room and Resource Investor.com.

BLACK HAT SPAT

f

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

For several days I have wanted to write about the recent Black Hat convention. But the news kept morphing the subject matter and I kept waiting to see the outcome so it could be hooked somehow into other aspects of our mutal reality. You see, one of my sisters is famous for her battles with hackers. One day, she gave them a really big challenge. This was back when I posted daily in a rather large hunk of the politics folder in the New York Times forums, about seven years ago.

THE WAR ON ERROR

f
Bush declares the War on Terriers is finished.

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

I just knew this would happen. Bush said, one day, "I will make our allies hostile," and sure enough, he succeeded. He also said he would "fight the war on terriers and bariffs" and he did exactly that, too. He also admitted that he, like the family friend, Mr. bin Laden, woke up every day thinking what he could do to attack America.

WAR IS HELL

f
By Elaine Meinel Supkis

Normally I set aside articles as I roam the news services. Sometimes, early in the morning, I read a headline, go off, come back to retrieve the article and it is gone!

Today's mysterious story is about the patriotic rebels (yes, they are! We may not like them but they are!) blew up a bunch of American soldiers and at least two died. I notice that there were zero headlines about this anywhere once I decided to find the article and looked for "soldiers dead" and found virtually no papers or media reported the blow up except at Antiwar.com, of course.

From my earlier article:
But while his deep reading and thinking in theology, philosophy, and history were fundamental to development as a theologian, it was the protests of student radicals at Tübingen University - in which he saw an echo of the Nazi totalitarianism he loathed - that seem to have pushed him definitively toward deep conservatism and insistence on unquestioned obedience to the authority of Rome

Back 2060 years ago, a photographer for Murdock's Londinium Times, working with an embedded reporter, caught the gist of the Landing of the Roman Expeditionary Forces and their many allies of one or two soldiers from various obscure provinces and satrapies.

Note the fierce fighting! The Romans kept invading and the natives kept fighting. They fought and fought. Eventually, the Romans taught them how to read and write and give boring political speeches and they forgot about fighting and went back to what they loved doing the most: drinking and having sex.
